Do I Want To Work Construction Jobs In Hawaii?

Jack of all trades; always the first person to break out a toolbox. Other people see a pile of two by fours; you see a stack of pure potential. Sound familiar? Then grab a hard hat and seriously consider a construction job in Hawaii.

Hawaii construction jobs offer a wide variety of opportunities; whether you like building things or taking a sledgehammer to them, there’s probably a construction job that will appeal to you. Highway construction, tunnel excavation, residential construction, commercial projects and demolition are just a small sample of the many positions available.

Each job comes with unique working conditions; from simple loading and unloading, to challenging heights, or exposure to hazardous materials, construction workers need to be prepared for anything! While projects can pause for inclement weather, you will need to be willing to work in heat, cold, rain, and just about anything else Mother Nature can throw at you. In return, you get a rewarding career that offers incredible variety, and provides plenty of opportunities to pursue the specialties that interest you.

What Are The Requirements To Work Construction Jobs In Hawaii?

Education: There are usually no specific educational requirements for entry level construction workers. Apprentice laborers are often expected to have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.). If you plan to pursue construction, classes in English, math, physics, shop and welding can come in handy; many high schools and community colleges offer these courses.

Coordination: Balance, depth-perception and eye-hand coordination are all critical to keep you steady on high beams and your fingers clear of chop saws.

Strength and Endurance: You’ll need to keep up and pull your weight (and then some) day after day. Make sure you’re physically up to the task before you sign up!

Expected Hours:
Hours vary by job, location and season. Indoor gigs might run year-round, whereas outdoor construction may have to pause for rainy weather. Highway construction often happens during the night shift, while new home construction will have you working a more nine-to-five schedule.

Dress the Part:
For construction interviews, khaki’s and a collared shirt are a good idea. On the job you’ll likely be wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Don’t forget sunscreen and bug spray if you’ll be working outside, they might be the most important thing you put on that day.

What Are Some Speciality Construction Jobs In Hawaii?

Welding, scaffold erecting, concrete finishing and other special trade certifications are available for construction laborers who want to pursue particular areas within the industry. If you have a firm grasp of project estimates, computer skills, and you can communicate effectively with subcontractors and clients, then you may have a future as a general contractor or labor supervisor. An ability to communicate in both English and Spanish is becoming important for all construction workers (particularly supervisors) as the number of Spanish-speaking workers grows.

What Are Some Extra Perks Of Hawaii Construction Jobs?

Staying active – This job will keep you on the move throughout the day

Learning opportunity – You’ll have a chance to check out many different trade skills

Low investment – typically there are no educational requirements for entry-level positions

One of the keys to happiness — as well as productivity and effectiveness at work — is finding work you love, that you’re passionate about. Work you want to do, instead of just have to do.

If you really want to do it, it barely seems like work at all.

There are people all over the world pursuing their dreams, working with passion, losing themselves in their work. Are you one of them? Do you want to be?

The difficult thing for many people is finding what that work is in the first place. They don’t know where to start, and it seems a hopeless cause.

It’s not. You can find that work, but it’ll take some effort. Here’s what you need to know about finding the work you love:

It won’t find you — you have to seek it. Doing the same ol’ thing everyday isn’t the way to find the work you love. Sometimes, you get extremely lucky and it just lands in your lap. Most people, however, aren’t that lucky — you’ve got to take action, and you’ve got to seek it.

You can’t stop looking until you find it. As Steve Jobs said, never settle. If you find something that’s just a bit better than your current job, that’s better … but don’t stop there. Keep looking. Don’t give up the search.

You’ll have to look in lots of funny places. Really explore. Try new hobbies. Talk to new people. Read articles on different blogs, in different magazines and books. Inspiration might come from someplace you never imagined.

You might not love it completely until you get good at it. Most likely you’ll know that you love something once you find it … but at that point, you’ve got to work at getting better at it, with all your might. Once you get good, it’ll be something you can’t stop doing, because you’ll get a thrill at doing something great.

Once you find it, you have to pour yourself into it. If you find the work you love, you’ve been given a gift. Don’t spoil it — truly pour yourself into that work. That doesn’t mean you should ignore the other loves in your life, including family and friends, but when you’re working, you should devote yourself completely to that work.

Here’s how to go about seeking your passion:

Break out of your routine, and dare to ask. You’ve got to stop what you’re doing (maybe not at this moment, but today, or tomorrow, not next week) and be bold enough to ask yourself if you love what you’re doing. And if you don’t, then what is it you really love? And if you don’t know, then are you going to look for it?

Spend time thinking about it. It’s good to take an hour or two to really think about the question. It’s worth the investment. Really think about what you love, about your life, about what you want to be doing.

Think of what you already love. Do you have hobbies you’re passionate about? What do you like reading about? What do you talk about with others? Is there something you always wanted to do but forgot about, or were too afraid to pursue?

What are your dreams? Is there something you’ve always wanted to accomplish in life? Almost everybody has some dream like that, sometime in their lives, but often they don’t thing it’s realistic. Give it more thought now.

What are you good at? What are your strengths? Do you have any talents? Is there something you’ve always excelled at? Pursue these things.

Take action. If you don’t actually do anything, you’ll never find it. Start doing research, start making calls, make appointments, take career assessment tests. Take action, now.

Explore new things. Try out new hobbies that sound interesting. Read about new things. Find new ways to explore — break out of your patterns.

Once you find something interesting, pursue it. Read about it. Learn, and try it, and do it, and get better at it. Don’t be afraid to pursue it — fear is what stops most people from finding this happiness.

Then take action – again. Now that you’ve learned about it, give it a try! You might be able to pursue it within your current job, or do it as a side job or just as a hobby at first. Write to people who are doing it to find out how they got started. Check out a few books on the library and do some research online to find out about the first steps you need to take — and then take them! Pursue your dreams!

Hawaii, the homeland of Proto-Polynesians and known as ‘Sawaiki, as in early days is a group of Islands in the United States. With a meager population of 1,360,301, it is one of the smallest States in the nation. LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Programs in Hawaii are government run programs. There are no privately conducted Nurse Internship programs in Hawaii.

LPNs are the entry level nursing staff kept to keep patient care and hygiene and look after him/her in absence of a Doctor and a Registered Nurse. There are only 4 training schools in the state so in order to get an admission, you have to be a keen learner and hold an excellent high school record. The eligibility criterion is almost same as in other states with an exception of pre-nursing examination. There are many applications each year but only those who clear the eligibility criteria and pass the pre-entrance test, are allowed to enroll in the training school.

Eligibility Criteria at a glance:

You must not be younger than 18 years of age.

A high school graduation/GED is must.

Physical assessment and drug addiction test is taken.

Pre-entrance examination of Mathematics and English.

Computer literacy.

Candidate must be free of any communicable disease.

The training program is conducted for 12-18 months. The average salary is $48000 which is nearly equal to the state’s annual average income. The training programs are inexpensive and intense as they are run by the state govt. The course fee is $3000-$5000 in all the colleges. You need to pass NCLEX-PN examination to get a license as a practical nurse. NCLEX-PN examination fee is $200 per attempt. Every year almost 1900 students graduate as practical nurses. These numbers are far below the required number of Practical Nurses. Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is the governing council regarding Accreditation of colleges. If you are not selected in any of the 4 training programs in Hawaii, you can opt for a distance learning Program from some other University of the US. Hawaii training programs are not in collaboration with Nurse License Compact Organization. In order to transfer your license to Hawaii State, you will be required to consult with the Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Here is the list of 4 public training schools located in the Hawaiian Region along with the name of the island on which they are present.

These are:-

Kapiolani Community College, the Target Isle.

Hawaii Community College, the Big Island.

UH Maui Community College, the Valley Isle.

Kauai Community College, the Garden Isle.

Certified nursing assistant, nurses aide, and caregiver positions usually require applicants meet certain requirements. Before you start your job search, make sure you meet Hawaii’s mandatory criteria. Once you have finished all the required steps and received your license, you can begin your employment search.

The first place to start when looking how to find CNA, nurses aide or caregiver jobs in Hawaii, is local facilities. Visit every hospital, nursing home, or long-term care residence to check if they have any openings. When visiting these places, it is important to make a good first impression so be sure you are dressed in a professional manner. Also, if you cannot find open positions, you can volunteer at the facility you most want to work at.

Once you have exhausted yourself by visiting all local facilities, you can try online job searching. There are multiple sites that companies can list their open positions on. You can even post your resume and qualifications so those same companies can find you in their search. There are also sites where families can look for caregivers for the aging or ill loved ones. You can check out the wanted pages in the local newspaper as well. If you are having a hard time finding employment, you can consider taking an ad out yourself.

Once you know how to find CNA, nurses aide or caregiver jobs in Hawaii, you can start your new career in the healthcare industry. Once you find employment, you will be in the position to provide basic care to patients such as checking vitals, bathing, and giving out medication.
Moving to Hawaii might be an idea on your mind, but before you decide to make a move from continental land to this island which is known to most people as a tropical paradise you must check out on a few things. Many of the people who have moved in here and stayed over a considerable time period find it a positive change with lifetime experience and beautiful environment.

While moving to Hawaii it is necessary that you are aware of the real estate cost and which of the six islands you want to move to. Before moving in to Hawaii islands first plan a visit. Choose the place where you want to finally settle down. All the six different islands are unique in every aspect not only in terms of geography, even in terms of job. This in turn affects the kind of lifestyle you can afford. Once you have had a look at the surroundings of each island you will know where it will be best for you to stay. Also which neighborhood is the right one, as a place with too many apartments might be good on your pocket, but it tells you that residents are not permanent type as compared to the one which has more houses.

If you do a proper analysis then you will end up being happy and will find a home of your choice to stay. Hawaii is one of the most lovely and nice place to shift, but there are few economic and social aspects similar to the mainland that are prevalent here as well. You should do some in depth research before you finally decide especially keeping the safety scenario and surroundings in your mind.

The cost that you will bear to live on the islands will be slightly higher than the mainland. This results from the fact that most consumer goods are imported from the mainland. Real estate is also costly compared to most of the other places and regions in the United States. Most economical place in terms of finding a place to live is Kahuai also called the Big Island. Since finding transportation is not as easy like Oahu it can add up to the cost of keeping a vehicle and finding an additional parking space.

Moving to Hawaii can be a similar experience like any other busy city in the United States, especially if you are moving to happening Island of Oahu, which has High rise buildings, Malls, bustling city life, happening beaches. In Honolulu is located the Ala Moana shopping center, the famous Waikiki Beach, and majority of the time it is a very busy place to be. You need to carefully decide where to stay and it will be a cherishing and rewarding experience.

Living in Hawaii was one of my goals in life. Once I was able to live my dream and spend my time in this paradise on earth, I cannot wait to one day return to this island. The first thing that you notice once you get off the plane is the beautiful green trees and plants that are all around you. The trees look so green, and they are so healthy.

The next thing that you will notice is the beautiful fragrance of the air and the nice mild temperature that always hovers around eighty degrees. The people there are for the most part very nice and helpful. Hawaii is geared towards tourism, and most of their economy is based off of courtesy. However, there are a few places that you have to be careful of.

Some of the native Hawaiians are really angry because they believe that their land has been taken away from them. Many of the youngsters are very rude to tourists, and acts of violence have been known to happen. Therefore, it is better for you to stay in the areas where tourists are most common.

If you like surfing, then you will truly enjoy living here. The water is warm, you do not have to wear a wet suit, and the waves are great! However, talk to an experienced surfer for the best areas because several of the areas have very sharp coral. I have several scars on my shoulders due to contact with coral. It is also a really great place to make relationships and friends. There are people all around the world who visit Hawaii, and they are very happy to meet new people.
